About the Rice Center

Children’s Home and Aid operates the Rice Center in Evanston which is a children’s residential treatment center. Open since 1908, the Rice Center is home to up to 60 local foster youth per year ages 6 to 15 who suffer from severe emotional, behavioral, or mental health issues resulting from abuse and trauma.  The $25,000 grant went towards their cutting edge ‘Trauma-Informed Occupational Therapy Program’ which aims to help children overcome their trauma and be successfully placed in a foster home.

About Almost Home Kids

Almost Home Kids is a short-term community based pediatric healthcare facility that provides a bridge from hospital to home for children with medical complexities. AHK offers both short- (1 to 14 days) and long- (up to 120 days) term transitional and respite care, as well as medically-supervised respite transportation to and from the facility, and a full complement of support services, including preparation for and understanding of surgical procedures, training in the maintenance and use of medical equipment, guidance through financial aid paperwork, and referral connections for in-home care.
